What is the World Wide Web?

The dictionary defines the World Wide Web as an information system on the internet that allows documents to be connected to others by hypertext links.

and this way enabling the users to search for information by having access to all these linked online archives.

so in other words the World Wide Web is a system of interconnected web pages, and web resources that are accessible through the internet with the use of an application known as a web browser.

web browsers are the software that is used to navigate the web, usually by following a uniform resource locator URL normally with one click, and which is the address of a website, this one published by a web server that contains hypermedia documents connected with hyperlinks.

hypertext transfer protocol HTTP is the software that governs the transfer of data usually with a protocol of request-response from the client to the server agent when a client can be a web browser that accesses the web and a server the webservers that host a website providing  HTML files and other types of content formats.          

hypertext markup language HTML is a type of file format which is a written code used as a base for creating a web page that displays on a browser presenting HTML elements such as forms, text, images, animations, links, etc. it is the main language used to build the World Wide Web.

hypermedia is an extension that allows interaction with multimedia files that have hypertext embedded such as images, animations, video, or graphics.

the world wide web has connected the world with globalization and has evolved the age of information.

and it was the vision of its inventor Tim Berners Lee an English scientific to make possible a global hyperlinked information system so in 1989 he created the World Wide Web and then the first web browser in 1990  by the time of 1991 it was open to the general public but not until 1993 it became popular.

the term internet is sometimes used as a synonym of the web but is necessary to understand that the internet is a service that implies a cost while the World Wide Web is available for free when the internet is about infrastructure and the web is about information.

it can be comparable to a library that has a lot of books, so the web would be all the stored information in the pages of those books and the internet could be the building and shelves used as storage.
